CYCLE 4 perseverance program
PERSEVERANCE for student autonomy
Everyone needs perseverance to achieve their goals independently. We need it to accomplish complex tasks, persist despite obstacles, show confidence in new situations, maintain motivation and adapt strategies after failure.
What's more, research has shown that students capable of perseverance are generally happier and healthier both physically and mentally (Credé et al., 2017).
Autonomy is not innate, and there are ways to cultivate it.
What do the national education programs say?
The notion of perseverance is present in the programs through that of the project: " implementing a project " "managing a project" "the project approach".

OUR program objectives "perseverance
Our program addresses the following objectives:
- Become aware of the universality of perseverance and the emotions associated with it.
- Demonstrate autonomy: know how to define your project with a specific objective, organize yourself and implement strategies to achieve it.
- Adopt a positive frame of mind to maintain motivation
The program in detail
Session 1:
First, students will self-assess their autonomy and perseverance, then discover its universal character with two games on the application. Then, they will share their experience and highlight the emotions linked to a new situation and/or a complex project.
Session 2:
In this second session, students will use two games to discover how to adopt a project approach and define a good objective. They will then apply this technique to set a collective and an individual objective.
Session 3:
A tidying-up game introduces the small-steps technique, which involves breaking down a complex task into smaller ones. Next, students take stock of their autonomy: the self-regulation strategies they already use and those they haven't yet exploited. Finally, they apply these techniques and, in groups, create methodological tools in the form of posters, mindmaps or infographics.
Session 4:
The aim of this session is to learn how to maintain motivation and keep up the effort in the event of difficulties in completing a project, and to do so independently. To achieve this, students will experiment with two techniques: encouragement and visualization of the final result.
Session 5:
In this session, students will discover the importance of celebrating past successes to develop their self-confidence and thus their ability to persevere. They will then create their own success tree.
Session 6:
To conclude the sequence, students take stock of what they've learned about perseverance, and complete a worksheet summarizing the key points to remember.
Our edutainment approach
Our approach combines independent games on tablet/computer and classroom activities.
Why use digital technology to work on CPS?
A variety of games enable students to reflect on themselves and discover best practices in concrete, everyday situations.
Ergonomics and easy-to-understand instructions encourage intuitive use by students: sorting games, drag & drop, MCQs, mazes, sophrology, etc.
Then a class activity is proposed. This could be, for example :
> a collective exchange or debate to develop opinions
> a role-playing game to put into practice what has been learned
> a small-group activity to consolidate what has been learned and learn to collaborate
> an artistic activity to develop creativity
> an activity to formalize what has been learned, such as application exercises or the creation of a written record.

A turnkey tool for completely autonomous use
In your teacher interface, you will have access to all the resources you need to implement the session:
- student tracking charts
- step-by-step teaching guides for easy-to-use sessions
- student materials to be projected or photocopied
- a proposed yearly progression and references to official programs
- instructions for use
To sum up:
The PERSÉVÉRANCE program will develop your students' autonomy to regulate their motivation, adapt their strategies and maintain their efforts in the face of difficulties. As a result, they will increase their chances of success and develop greater self-esteem.
