The benefits of sleep in the development of your kids!

Hello Super Parents,

Today we're going to talk about a very important subject in the daily lives of children: SLEEP!

Did you know?

Sleep is one of a child's fundamental needs. Indeed,good quality sleep is essential to a child's physical, mental and cognitive development, and brings a number of benefits;

  • Sleep is essential for memorization, enabling you to recall what you've learned during the day. You learn your lessons better.
  • We grow when we sleep, because growth hormone is secreted much more during deep sleep.
  • When you're asleep, you're dreaming. It's the perfect time to let your imagination run wild.
  • When you're rested, you're better able to manage your emotions.

Consequently, not getting enough sleep can damage your child's health, affecting his memory, logical reasoning, behavior and ability to manage his emotions.

How many hours do they need to sleep?

The number of hours of sleep varies from child to child. Sleep patterns change constantly between birth and adolescence. The older your child grows, the fewer naps he or she will take, and the less sleep he or she will get:

💤 From age 1 to 5, children need 10 to 14 hours of sleep.
💤 Between ages 3 and 6, naps can be stopped.
💤 From ages 6 to 13, they need 9 to 11 hours of sleep.
💤 A teenager aged 14 to 17 needs 8 to 10 hours of sleep.

How can you help them if they have trouble sleeping?

Sleep disorders are common in children, disrupting their daily lives. These problems can be insomnia (difficulty falling asleep and waking up at night), hypersomnia (excessive sleep) or parasomnia (sleepwalking, night terrors, nightmares, etc.).

Based on the expertise of 59 scientists, researchers at the University of Manchester propose an optimal 6-step bedtime routine:

💡Brush your teeth before going to bed
💡Keep a set bedtime
💡Read a story or a book before turning off the light
💡Avoid eating and drinking before going to bed
💡Get away from electronic devices, screens at night
💡Do a quiet activity (take a bath, chat with family...).

This routine will help your child sleep better and grow up better!
