Harassment: helping adults understand the facts?
Every morning, our children leave for school facing harassment as witnesses or actors.
Every day, 3018 receives 500 calls reporting harassment.
Every month, 2 students die as a result of bullying.
Every year, 1 million students are victims of harassment.
It's distressing 😰
7 out of 10 young people say they have been victims of violence at school. 26% bullying, 15% beatings, 14% sexual violence, 9% dangerous games.
Violence is concentrated in middle school and sometimes high school for 71% of young people, but 25% report violence in primary school and 6% in kindergarten.
The sources of violence are multifactorial: group influence (44%), personal factors, family context (33%), say the young people.
While some witnesses come to the victims' aid or show compassion, the majority (69%) are indifferent or even encourage the perpetrator (38%).
The consequences are real, too, for the 1 million children harassed every year:
- Loss of confidence (46% of victims),
- School dropouts (27%),
- Decline in physical health (22%).
And death for some 😢
As adults, we are responsible for normalizing situations that are NOT NORMAL!
This film shows that we don't put ourselves on a child's level, we don't realize what's going on.
In a world where our children see:
MPs insulting each other in parliament,
TV pundits fighting without debate,
TV presenters insulting their guests,
Reality TV stars talking past each other without respect,
Youtubers insulting each other via video.
And even an ex-president of a major world power insulting people at meetings and on the networks...
Verbal abuse online and offline has become normal, and I'm outraged by the world we're letting our children grow up in!
We no longer respect each other, we no longer debate, we don't accept differences and diversity of opinion...
We have to be identical, belong to a group, be for or against, choose sides all the time.
Bullying at school is simply a reflection of the world of verbal violence in which we live today.
If adults can afford this kind of behavior, I can afford it as a child...
CHILDREN DIDN'T INVENT BULLYING AT SCHOOL!
All they do is reproduce what they see: the retreat of living together, the loss of values, respect and tolerance in the world.
FRATERNITY requires INCLUSION and RESPECT for others.
As adults, let's ALL be exemplary in ensuring that in the 21st century, children no longer go to school with a knot in their stomach💙
Talk to your kids tonight 🙏🏻
